The adult and pediatric CPR/AED course equips students to recognize and care for cardiac emergencies involving adults, children and infants. It is designed for students who need a certification that satisfies OSHA workplace or other regulatory requirements, this does not cover those who work in a health care setting. Upon successful completion a valid 2 year-digital certificate for Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED is issued. Physical completion cards are an additional $10 (due the night of class). A valid email is required.

The ARC First Aid class covers topics in First Aid Basics like finding the problem and effectively treating by ARC guidelines using personal protective equipment. This course also covers many topics pertaining to illness and injuries whether it’s a health condition or the result of an accident. This course, when paired with the Adult & Pediatric CPR/AED course, meets OSHA workplace and other regulatory requirements. A valid email is required.

This in-person course prepares youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities, videos and discussions to develop essential real-life readiness babysitting skills. The course covers caring for children and infants from mealtime to bedtime, playing and promoting positive behavior and emergency response. Please bring a lunch, a snack, and a water bottle to class. Students receive a handbook, activities, and a babysitting certificate.

Spring really isn’t that far away. Discover how small changes in landscaping can make a big impact on water quality, native habitat, and pollinator health. This class will look into ways to restore shorelines, create pollinator-friendly lawns, and utilize rain gardens to filter runoff while supporting wildlife. Whether you’re looking to replace traditional turf with native plants, improve shoreline resilience, or attract beneficial insects, this session will present some environmentally friendly alternatives.

Melrose Area Community Education is proud to offer the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). Both new and returning archers are welcome! Our trained instructors focus on teaching proper archery skills, safety, and sportsmanship. Participants will practice on Mondays and Thursdays throughout the season and have the opportunity to compete in several regional tournaments on Saturdays. Practice Information Practices are offered at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Elementary students are encouraged to register for the 6:00 p.m. practice, if possible, but families may choose the practice time that works best for their schedule. Additional Preseason Practices Required for all NEW team members (regardless of grade): November 2, 9, 16 & 23 6:00-6:45 p.m. High School Gym Recommended for all elementary students (Grades 5-6):These extra practices help build a strong foundation in safety, shooting form, and tournament procedures before the regular season begins. While not required for returning elementary archers, attendance is strongly encouraged. In this class, we trade microscopes for spatulas as we engineer delicious, three-dimensional models of the most important structures on Earth: THE CELL. We'll dive deep into the differences between the creatures of the animal kingdom and the wonders of the plant world. By the end of the session, you won't just know what cells look like; you'll know exactly how it's built and what makes it "tick."

** Fall Skill sessions are for additional practice and no levels will be passed nor will there we a parent watch during the skill session. ** In this Gymnastics program, classes will focus on all areas of gymnastics: floor, beam, bars and vault, and improving skills and strength.This program is for girls who live in the Melrose School District, or those who attend Melrose Public Schools.All girls must be at least 4 years old and potty trained to participate in Beginner and up classes. Tiny Tumblers must be 3 by May 1. Gymnasts should wear a leotard, or tight fitting tank top or shirt, and spandex shirts. Nothing loose fitting. No socks, our jewelry. The instructor LeeAnne Krusemark is a former journalist, current author and editor, and a nationwide Professor of Publishing at higher learning institutions, including Harvard Adult Education. Those attending the camp are invited to cheer at the first half of the football game on October 9. Free admission for the football game as well as a t-shirt and hair bow is included.
