Bell Museum ExploraDome
Join us in Melrose for an out-of-this-world experience at the Bell Museum ExploraDome. Choose from 3 show times and reserve your spot by registering early—space is limited! Shows are open to all ages, but pre-registration is required for everyone. 9:00 AM: Observations of the Sky: perfect for younger friendsWe will investigate the changes that occur in the sky in a 24-hour day by observing and describing the changes in the position of the Sun, Moon, and stars. 9:40 AM: Zoom! From the Earth to the Edge of the Universe The audience decides which objects in space to visit in this program, from Earth to the edge of the observable universe and anywhere in between. The journey will help students appreciate the scale of the Solar System, galaxy, and universe, the vast distance separating these objects, and how these objects change over time. 10:30 AM: Seasons, Phases, Eclipses Our Minnesota sky changes throughout the day, and across the seasons. Students will learn how to make observations about the sky: noticing constellations, planets, and the changing positions of the sun and moon. -
Bugged Out Water
Is there anything more exciting than playing with bugs? We will be digging right in and seeing what kind of buggy neighbors are swimming around our lakes and streams. This is a very hands-on session, full of creepy crawly fun that will leave you with a better appreciation of how important insects are, as well as what they can tell us about the water. -
Candy Making 101
Dive into the sweet art of candy making! In this hands-on class, you’ll explore the different tools used to create candy and learn how to make molded sugar mints, elegant designer chocolates, and rich, delicious truffles. Take home your creations and impress friends and family with your homemade treats! -
F.A.S.T. Kids-Staying Safe While Home Alone, ages 7-10/
First Aid and Safety Trained Kids (F.A.S.T.) is a 4 hour course for 7-10 year olds. This course helps prepare children for staying safe at and away from home. Lessons cover basic first aid, water safety, vehicle safety, home emergencies, injury prevention, stranger, and internet safety. Students will receive a book, handouts and a home first aid kit as part of the class. -
Ice Cream Science
Get ready for a sweet blend of science and fun! In Ice Cream Science, youth will explore the cool chemistry behind one of their favorite treats. Through hands-on experiments, they’ll learn how ingredients transform into ice cream, discover the role of temperature and salt in freezing, and see science in action as they stir and mix their way to delicious results. After making their own batch, participants will enjoy tasting their creations —and the best part? They’ll take home their homemade ice cream to share with family and friends. -
Level 1 Cake Decorating
Learn the basics of cake decorating in this hands-on class! You’ll practice simple techniques, decorate your own cupcake, and take home a kit—including a star tip, piping bags, and practice sheets—so you can continue learning at home. -
Level 2 Cake Decorating
Take your cake decorating skills to the next level! In this class, you’ll explore advanced frosting techniques, decorative borders, and creating beautiful flowers. You’ll also learn how to stack cakes and decorate your own stacked cake to take home and show off your new skills. -
Lifeguard Class
Learn how to effectively prevent and respond to water emergencies with the American Red Cross lifeguard training. Our courses are designed to arm you with the skills and knowledge to prepare you for a variety of scenarios in and around the water. With our lifeguard training, you will learn how quick response times and effective preparation are vital to being a lifeguard while also understanding the crucial elements in helping to prevent drownings and injuries. Students will do coursework online and will do one day of classroom & Pool testing. Students must be 15 years old by the last day of class. Class will be held in Middle School Room 314 and the Pool. Please bring swim suits and towels. -
Minecraft Game Art Studio
Bring your Minecraft world to life with your own custom art! In Minecraft Game Art Studio, students will transform their love of the game into creative skills by designing player skins, themed texture packs, simple UI icons, and 2D sprites that can be exported and used at home. Along the way, they’ll learn the fundamentals of pixel art—like readability, color palettes, and tiling—while gaining beginner-friendly file skills to make their art usable beyond camp. By the end, each student will have a personalized asset pack ready to drop into their own Minecraft adventures. Perfect for fans who want to level up their creativity in Minecraft! -
Mom, I'm Cooking Supper
Discover why there are so many pasta shapes and how each one pairs with different sauces. Taste pasta brought back from Italy, learn to make homemade pasta dough and ravioli noodles, and prepare a pasta dish to take home for supper in an 8x8 pan—complete with garlic bread. -
Preschool Nature Explorers
In this hands-on class, children will discover bugs, search for animal homes, examine leaves, and use magnifying glasses to look at the world around them. Each week brings a new outdoor adventure filled with movement, curiosity, and simple nature discoveries. -
Preschool No Cook Cooking Class
Young children will explore simple no-cook recipes while practicing independence and fine motor skills. Each week will feature a fun and tasty creation that your child will create! -
Private Music Lessons: Piano, flute & More!
Grow your musical skills with half-hour private lessons in piano, flute, piccolo, B-flat clarinet, E-flat saxophone, or bass guitar. Lessons are held on Tuesdays between 4:00–8:00 pm at Melrose Area Schools. When you register, please indicate your preferred time, and the instructor will contact you to schedule your exact lessons time. Students must have their own instrument at home for practice. 30-minute private lessons offered at Melrose Area Schools with flexible daytime and evening scheduling. Instructor Lydia Prout, who is studying music performance at St. Olaf College, will contact families after registration to schedule lesson times. Students must provide their own instrument for practice or piano at home. -
RC Wars
In RC Wars, teams of students will build their own Remote Control vehicles to race and battle against other teams. Students will need to design their vehicles to not only be faster and stronger than other teams’ creations, but also better than purchased RC Cars and Drones! RC Wars will feature land and air races, obstacle courses and more as students learn mechanical and electrical building skills in an energetic and exciting environment. -
Rainbow Smoothies
Get ready to blend, taste and create! In Rainbow Smoothies youth will explore the colorful world of smoothie-making while experimenting with different types of blenders. Each participant will design their own smoothie according to their unique taste preferences, mixing and matching fruits, vegetables, and other wholesome ingredients. Along the way, they’ll discover the four key elements of a nutritious smoothie: Base – choosing liquids that set the foundation Fruits & Veggies – adding natural sweetness, flavor, and color Protein – boosting energy and fullness Extras – superfoods, spices, and toppings for creativity and health This hands-on class encourages creativity, healthy choices, and teamwork, while teaching practical kitchen skills. By the end, everyone will walk away with their own signature smoothie recipe and the confidence to keep blending at home -
School of Fish
School of Fish is taught by pro angler and "Fishing the Midwest" television show host Mike Frisch. Come and learn about lakes, finding fish in those lakes and some great ways to catch them. Learn ways to access shore fishing spots, and how to tie a fishing knot and rig and use a slip-bobber setup. Students receive the School of Fish workbook, a rod and reel, tackle and more along with class instruction. This class is sponsored by Freeport Family Fishing and MN Darkhouse Association. -
Spanish Sports & Games Summer Camp: Vamos a Ganar! (Let’s Win!)

In this dynamic camp, kids explore the world of sports, games, and the Olympics while learning Spanish through interactive activities, songs, and teamwork. Youth Summer Theatre Camp
Kids in grades 1-8, get ready for a great time on stage at Theatre Camp this year. Directors and assistants will instruct and mentor you in all of the steps necessary to produce a play. After one week, there will be a great show ready for the public! The first day will consist of auditions, followed by script reading and rehearsals. On the final day the students will spend the day at camp and in the evening there will be a performance for family and community members at 5:00 pm. Camp t-shirt included.
